The Department of Sanitation in New York City came to us after just rolling out a new food disposal initiative. The campaign had to encompass the idea of "unwanted roommates" moving in to your place—if you don't throw away your food scraps in special brown bins. I illustrated contemporary humanized pests (rat and cockroach) making themselves at home, to be used in ads on subway cars and bus shelters.
The NYC Department of Sanitation plan to roll the ads out in subway and bus hubs, accompanying the illustrations with a quirky tagline and simple call to action: just place your food scraps in the brown bin.
